The East Tech Times East Career and Technical Academy's News Site Fri, 15 May 2020 15:23:00 +0000 en-US hourly 1 The East Tech Times 32 32 COVID-19 Fri, 15 May 2020 15:23:00 +0000 Imagine this: You’re in class minding your own business, sitting next to your best friend in the whole entire world. She has a cough which isn’t new to you or even that much alarming so you go on your own day minding your business. Little do you know that cough could change your whole life. She could have had the Corona virus that is killing hundreds of people a day and thousands a month. This disease is moving fast and at a rapid pace of taking out our entire human race. We will now find out who, what, where, when, why, and how for millions of years COVID-19 is now coming for the normal people of America just trying to move on in life.

So who and what is COVID-19?  According to the COVID-19 is a disease that can give you even the common symptoms of having a regular cold. It is also in relation to the SARS epidemic that started in 2002 in China as well. What it is, is a mixture of symptoms related to any normal cold. The symptoms can range from fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, coughing, and shortness or difficulty of breathing.

Where and when did this start you may be asking? COVID-19 was found in the original space of the Chinese community. They have linked some of the cases running back to the little town in China called Wuhan tracing that back to a wholesale food market. The National Foundation of Infectious Diseases that the cases have been found world wide but the main source was found in China. They believe to think someone there was selling something in the nature of bats which could’ve started it all. Time wise the first case was found in China in December of 2019. They say it emerged in the seafood or poultry section of the Wuhan market food place. Also according to the situation summary many of the patients and outbreaks started in China from  Wuhan, Hubei Province, China which occurred to animal to human spread. Overall all of the cases have started from in China and developed and grown fast there.

Now we need to understand as the people known to be the greatest nation why and how did this happen. Why is a COVID-19 so big and called a pandemic? This had become a known global pandemic on February 11, 2020 when the outbreak became so severe and detrimental to our way of life they abbreviated the statement of “Coronavirus” to “COVID-19” and also became a pandemic according to the Pandemic means prevalent over a whole country or the world. Well it became and moved so rapidly and everyone was getting sick from it. Calling it a pandemic makes the people of not only the United States but of the world realize how serious this disease is and to not take it lightly. So far worldwide 298K people have died from this COVID-19 and are still counting as the seconds fly by. How is this still happening? This is still happening because there is no cure yet. Not only that but not many people in the world are taking this as serious or taking themselves much care. That is why most states and cities are known to be closed down. No malls, movie theaters, big stores, and even parks are being closed. How to stop it is unsolvable right now other than sitting in your home and waiting this pandemic out. Time will pass by and soon we will be back to normal.

We Are Not Ready to Open These Establishments Thu, 14 May 2020 21:25:38 +0000 To start off, COVID-19 is a growing pandemic that has affected millions of peoples day to day lives. This is something not to take lightly. It is rather infecting due to how easily people can attain it. People all around the world are getting infected and more than 76,000 people have died from it according to and that is a growing number to this day. I believe we aren’t ready to open up stores just yet, we should take some precautions and figure out how to attain this virus before we take actions in opening up the stores. It has been proven by that we are able to get COVID-19 from surfaces or objects that have the virus on it. This is a very key thing that we should pay more attention to, from what I’ve seen not everyone takes the precautions that are needed to prevent this virus from spreading. Overall, I don’t think many people have understood the seriousness of this pandemic and that we should just stay indoors till someone figures out a vaccine or a solution to this overall problem.

Hopes for the Future Thu, 14 May 2020 21:13:32 +0000 After numerous reports of the virus had occurred in places other than Wuhan people around the entire world may have been overreacting over what could’ve been just another simple sickness. According to some TV channels like Fox 5 in Las Vegas and Weather Central, they describe the COVID-19 symptoms after the first 4 days upon the first person to get the “virus” and after realizing the symptoms, they began to question the whole thing. Another one was ads on YouTube showing important people coming up to say “I don’t think this is a virus, I just think it’s just another simple sickness that needs a different cure for it, why do we take this very seriously and we have to stay away from everyone other than family? Ridiculous…”

These days I go out and all of what is seen for each and every person sees  depression, silence, and staying away from others more than they expected. And also millions are now unemployed and file for unemployment as the numbers increase in tens of thousands. The New York Times claim 6.6 million which was later changed to 16 million are unemployed people and the Washington Post reports 22 million unemployed. The economy, society, almost everything is being broken down over a simple sickness. Many still check on friends, coworkers, everyone they know to see if they’re okay, Some people have those they all care for. And some businesses, restaurants and fast food places are reopening and the workers are checked everyday to see if they can work. We can hopefully be all cured and rid of the new and simple sickness so we can return to having happy stores, no toilet paper hogs, everything normal and peaceful United States.

COVID-19 Conspiracy Theories Wed, 13 May 2020 20:39:29 +0000 With COVID-19 cancelling school and the use of public places a lot of panic has come towards opposing countries to continents. Corona virus is a disease that affects everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, money status or gender. Many theories of how it became a great problem has been evoked.

Here are some of the Conspiracies it has evoked

  • Overpopulation

Many people believe that the disease was released to reduce the population of our growing country. As of February 11th 2020, YALE university figured that there are 7.8 billion inhabitants. The theory explains that every 10 years a disease is released to control the population. 10 years ago it was the “Avian Influenza” and now its COVID-19

  • Donald Trump’s Reelection

Since the pandemic started elections have been going on.This led to many people believing that Trump worked with China to release this disease. It is believed that Trump worked with China so he could blame it on a big country that delivers many products to the US to terrorize people. This would make the US scared and make them reelect Trump because that would be the least of their worries.

  • 5G

As the virus emerged, 5G was implemented. Some people believe that the virus traveled through the electromagnetic spectrum and as 5G got stronger and used it became stronger and that’s why we are in a pandemic.

  • COVID-19 is not the worst

Many people believe that the virus is exaggerated and not many people have it OR they believe that it is fake. Many people have recorded the line to get tested for COVID-19 and there seems to be no one.

  • GMOs are involved

Genetically modified organisms fill our produce and food. It is believed that GMOs somehow help the spread of viruses and diseases like the corona virus. Before the pandemic started invading an article was released regarding GMOs helping diseases spread.

Overall these are just SOME THEORIES

For right now we should just focus on doing what the CDC recommends if it is true

Understanding Corona-virus (COVID-19) Wed, 13 May 2020 20:27:45 +0000 Corona-virus disease(COVID-19) is a new novel respiratory illness, not fully understood by the Center of Disease and Control(CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and many brilliant scientists well-known for disease prevention and control. In late December 2019, COVID-19 was first found in people that ate from a seafood restaurant in Wuhan, China. Many people became very ill, most of the infected died from an unknown disease that was later named a corona-virus. These symptoms are very common in many corona-viruses with symptoms of bronchitis, pneumonia type respiratory illnesses, ranging from mild to severe with worse cases of death. By late January 2020, corona-virus was confirmed in the United States by public health officials and spreading rapidly. Because the virus is not yet understood, but it seems to spread to infected people very easily. Most people who have been infected are unsure of how or where they became infected. They had not visited out of the state or country, nor had they eaten seafood from Wuhan, China. This virus has been known to be the deadliest virus we have all encountered at this time.  The latest information from the CDC website states that we have entered a worldwide pandemic disease named Corona-virus disease 19, even though there are many corona-viruses like SARS and MARS, and many others, this disease is still unknown origin, there are no medications to treat the virus, no immunizations to prevent the virus, no one knows how the virus is spread. In the beginning, it was said those who were at risk were the ones who recently traveled to an area with the COVID-19 outbreak, had contact with a sick person who recently traveled to an area with a COVID-19 outbreak or who had contact with a person who was diagnosed with COVID-19. However, today the spread was rapidly spreading in all ways with no one knowing how they have become infected, and mass death in the United States and all over the world. Sending the CDC and the WHO scrambling for a cure vaccine or help to figure out this emerging infectious disease that has been plagued all over the world with deaths increasing. CDC stated that everyone should wear a mask, stand 6-feet apart from other people, do not gather in groups of more than 10 people, always wash your hands, wear gloves when out in public. The CDC advises that if you are sick, stay home, for mild cases supportive care is the treatment wait 3 days, if you still have symptoms, contact your primary care doctor for further instructions on how to care for yourself at home. For severe cases, emergency care should be implemented and you may need to stay in the hospital. This disease has shut down cities, schools, churches, casinos, restaurants, parks, golf courses, malls, amusement parks, and all non-essential businesses.  This disease has taken many lives and infected more with more people becoming infected and dying every day. The CDC  states that since there’s no vaccine or cure for this disease, people should not travel right now for any reason that is not urgent. Cruise ships were also not able to dock in states due to the ill aboard, and many died on the cruise ships.

The City of Las Vegas Reopens Wed, 13 May 2020 20:20:46 +0000 In the city of Las Vegas, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak reopens some Las Vegas businesses. The reopening of the businesses will happen on May 9, 2020. The decision to reopen Las Vegas was unanimous. The reason behind this was to reopen the economy. However this reopening will only last until May 30, 2020 if the situation of COVID-19 won’t get any better. This reopening is a bad idea to the Las Vegas community. This can potentially make the situation of COVID-19 worse as it is reopening businesses with high amounts of people such as malls and casinos. All employees of a business are required to wear face masks however if you are not an employer wearing a face mask is optional. Wearing a face mask should be mandatory for everyone as there will be crowds of people which will make the virus spread easier. This reopening isn’t implying to social distancing as it is creating more opportunities for the virus to spread even more and making the situation even worse.

Corona Virus Isolation Wed, 13 May 2020 20:15:52 +0000 Corona Virus is a virus that spreads easily if you’re not protected enough. People all over the globe are taking extra precautions so that we can stay safe as a community. But are all these precautions absolutely necessary? In my opinion they are necessary but some of them are used to the extreme. We as a nation are worried about all of our wealth as a community, but there are some people that aren’t nearly as considerate as others. The community as a whole should come together and follow the government’s directions so we can pass by this easily.

This pandemic has enforced us all to stay inside and be confined to our households. Although it is great that we have time off school and work, there isn’t really much to do inside. Isolation is something that the generation that we are living in isn’t enjoying very much. I feel that with the quarantine came the opportunity to try things people have been putting off. Personally I have been wanting to paint my room but I just had not gotten the time to do it. The isolation has influenced people to start working out, try new hobbies, clean, and genuinely do things that we simply wouldn’t have thought to do before.

he negative aspect of this pandemic but people should focus more on the time where the isolation will be lifted. The society has been panicking over something that they aren’t really paying much attention to. I don’t think people realized how much this pandemic is going to affect us a whole when this is all over. Isolation is something that I think people will generally get used to and won’t be accustomed when we go back to normal.

The Change COVID-19 has Brought Tue, 12 May 2020 20:33:40 +0000 COVID-19 has impacted everyone’s lifestyle in various ways. It’s literally taken place around the world and it’s so easy to spread. A lot of people have lost their lives or family members due to this outbreak. It’s literally all over the news and months later it is still a main topic. Some people don’t really care and don’t stay home and it’s ignorant because if they don’t take precautions they’re the reason it keeps spreading and the reason we still have to pause our activities to stay home. Racism has always been a thing but because of this pandemic it somehow makes it okay to be racist which it doesn’t. Some people aren’t educated enough to realize ethnicity isn’t how you get it. People have been physically assaulted and worse. There has also been depression because of job loss. Supplies have also been limited and it can be scary.

Effects of COVID-19 Wed, 06 May 2020 19:43:37 +0000 Considering COVID-19, there has been a stay-at-home quarantine implemented around the world – leading to a lot of opinions. The quarantine has been implemented mainly since mid March and it has had a big impact on the world regarding health, businesses, etc.

The quarantine hasn’t been the best experience at all in my opinion and a lot of the world has the same opinion as I do. I do think that the quarantine is reasonable, but the boredom is getting to me and I want to be an ‘idiot’ with my friends! The boredom is making me try new things like TiKToK. I’m trying out crop tops, actually using Twitter and promoting my social media every chance I get. I’ve been working on my school work that’s somewhat optional – mainly because my grades need the help right now. While the quarantine is annoyingly boring, there are a few benefits I’ve found for myself with having so much time at home.

I’m one of those kids that wants to be a YouTuber while I’m also not extremely invested in the hobby anymore. The main genre I want to do requires me to do my own research and scripts, which takes a good amount of time, and the quarantine gives me a lot of free time for that work as well. I’m a workaholic so for most of my free time in general I’m working on scripts or research or even enrichment type of stuff. So even if the quarantine closes most shops and businesses it still has its positives.

My opinion on opening up the shops around Vegas and around the world is pretty 50/50. On one hand, opening up the businesses would help the economy, it would make the amount of unemployed citizens obviously decrease and probably more. On the other hand I have to consider why the quarantine began in the first place. I think the businesses should start opening once there’s a more obvious drop in the cases of COVID-19. If we just open everything before it can get better it’ll cause the sickness to spread faster and more will die.

What is COVID 19? Tue, 05 May 2020 20:51:07 +0000 COVID-19 was announced in late 2019, when a mysterious illness was reported in Wuhan, China.

The cause of the disease was soon confirmed as a new kind of corona virus in a family that ranged from the common cold to MERS corona virus, and SARs, corona virus. Stated NewScientist on April 14″ Common symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fevers of 100.5 or higher
  • Cough or dry cough
  • Shortness of Breath and the infection has since spread my countries around the world and become a pandemic.

According to an article from Eric Cortellessa, “Americans suffer today is the result of measures that federal, state, and local governments have had to adapt to stem the spread of COVID-19 – from social distancing, social isolation, and closing of borders and business. Economic analysis can give us a rough estimate, and it suggests that America could have prevented at least 40% of these terrible costs and perhaps as much as 86% of the economy’s damage.”

Due to the pandemic the closure of colleges, and the other academic opportunity interrupts the teaching for college kids round the world; the closure also coincides with a key assessment period and lots of exams are postponed or maybe cancelled.

With all that’s going on it is highly recommended that you wear masks when going out for it and also discovers that it also transports through air. To keep hands from going anywhere near the face and constantly washing the hand to lower the rate of infection.

As of late April 2020 there have been 981,246 positive COVID-19 cases and 55,258 deaths in the United States. This can all be reduced if everyone kept 6 feet of distance and not going to big family reunions or any big gatherings. Cover any cough that you might have and if you think you’re infected contact your medical professional, isolate yourself, and keep from having contact with anyone else. Stay indoors and do not go out if not necessary.
